Hi Ken: You are correct, man.It was my very distinct honor to work with The Others in 1968. The place you're thinking about was called The Blue Sands down by the beach. We played there every weekend for a whole summer. Thanks for remembering.
BTW: You wouldn't happen to have any photos of those gigs would you?

I discovered a 45 of "Big Fat Woman/Chicken Shack" inside of a used Sonny Boy Williamson LP I picked up recently. Is this the same band? Looks like a 1970's pressing. Trying to get some info as I am blues collector. Thanks.

I was confused by the letter below, too. So I checked it out. What it is is a recording of Duke's "Too Hot to Handle" with a photo montage. One of the pictures chosen shows Duke and I recording a track for my next CD. Nice shot, too. Such GOOD LOOKIN' boys...and sweet Les Pauls, as well. But...I assure you we're NOT playing together on the audio portion of the vid. Thbaks for asking...

"don't worry, amy" has appeared on no full-length CD, correct? Except for the Big City Blues compilation I mean....How about "big fat woman"?

BOB ANGELL REPLIES:

February 7, 2010

RIght! The first issue 45 DID, indeed, have "Something Inside Me" (by Slim Harpo) on the topdeck and "Olneyville Stomp" downstairs. I seem to remember that on subsequent issues, "O.Stomp" was made the A-side.

Anthony C

February 5, 2010

Sure....Just wanted to put in my two cents. No-one has said that Olneyville Stomp was the actual B-side of the original single, right?

Larry Mann

January 31, 2010

Well..........Yeah..But REAL blues outlet fans must realize there's LOTS more than "O. Stomp". Am I wrong??!?!?!???

Hate to be seen as an enabler of bootleggers, but I do own a cassette from Japan (I think)...which includes cuts by B.B. King, John Mayall, John Lee Hooker , Duke Robillard , T.S. McPhee and "Olneyville Stomp". Thought you'd like to know..... T.W.

bob angell replies:

December 5, 2009

Hi there Willie:
Well, for starters, it first saw the light of day on a 7" vinyl 45; Next it was picked up for inclusion on a 12-inch platter called New England's Best Rock put out by a radio station here in the Northeastern US. It appeared on the I Feel So Good ! CD and has subsequently been heard on Sampler CDs issued by Blues Revue magazine and Big City Blues mag. Other less legitimate re-issues are definitely floating about , as well. Reportedly UK and Japanese bootlegged versions are available on various nefarious websites. Good Luck in your hunt.

Hi:
I always loved "Olneyville Stomp." Was it ever on a vinyl 12-inch? I think I heard it had been released in Britain on a 12-incher sometime in the mid eighties? Any idea where I could locate a copy? Thanks...and keep on giving the blues a proper seeing to.!!

Leslie, the black acoustic is an Oscar Schmidt. Has a real nice bluesy sound ...and a built in pickup for the louder numbers.I'd have to watch the video to see which numbers are included before revealing the keys. But, I will say some of the tunes are probably in various open tunings. Good Luck...
